According to the Tibet Autonomous Region Sports Bureau, as of the end of 2020, there has been 269 social sports organizations of all levels and types in Tibet and 8,237 sports venues, covering an area of about 5.55 million square meters, which is 1.6 square meters per capita, and 5,547 social sports instructors at all levels.
Based on its unique geographical advantage, Tibet has been vigorously developing mountain sports in recent years and promoting the development of the local sports industry. There are brand-name events such as the Trans-Himalayan International Cycling Extreme Race, the Tibet Mountaineering Conference, the Lhasa Half Marathon, and the Tour of Basum Co Lake Mountain Biking Cross Country Challenge, raising sports consumption of the region.
