Recently, Dawa, an associate researcher at the Insect Research Office of the Tibet Autonomous Region Institute of Plateau Biology, led a team to conduct a comprehensive survey of butterfly species in Gyirong County and its surrounding areas. The team found a new butterfly species that has never been recorded in China, the nominate subspecies of Euploea core.
Tibet is one of the regions with the greatest diversity of butterfly species in China, where nearly 600 species of butterflies have been recorded by now, accounting for nearly 40% of the total number of butterfly species in China. New species and newly recorded species are discovered and published every year. At the same time, the Himalaya region is also a hot spot for butterfly biodiversity research in the world. The complex and diverse geographical environment has nurtured countless rare butterflies, many of which are distributed in Tibet.
The discovery of the nominate subspecies of Euploea core is another important achievement in the study of butterfly species diversity in the Himalaya mountainous area of Tibet, increasing the number of butterfly species of China and extending the distributing range of the nominate subspecies of Euploea core, thus providing new materials for the study of the nominate subspecies of Euploea core.
