Lobsang Tsering, a Khampa man, was born in Yanjing Naxi Ethnic Township in 1983. In 2009, he enrolled in China's only professional wine research institute, the College of Enology at the Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University.

Because of its cultural traditions and the geographical and climate advantages of the Naxi ethnic township, Lobsang Tsering returned to his hometown and teamed up with Dr. Gao Jie, a Han Chinese teacher whom he had met at school. Together, they founded the Tibet Markam County Treasure of Eastern Tibet Wine Co., Ltd., brewing the highest altitude wine in the world. They also named it after the Dameiyong Snow Mountain, the source of the melted snow water that helps their grapes grow.
