As a border area of China, Xizang has a vast territory and a sparse population. Villages are scattered in the pasturing area and transportation is not convenient. If only the traditional day school education model is used, there will be a lot of difficulties and the quality of education cannot be guaranteed. Boarding school is an effective education model conforming to the reality of the Xizang Autonomous Region.
We specifically interviewed Nancy Levine, Associate Professor of the Anthropology Department, University of California, Los Angeles, and Gelek, an internationally famous Tibetologist, the first anthropology doctor cultivated by People’s Republic of China, and the first Tibetan to obtain a PhD degree, and listened to their opinions on boarding schools in Xizang.
