This animal looks like a cross between a red fox and a wolf. Although it has white fur from its lower jaw to abdomen, similar to that of a jackal, its grey-black coat is unlike the characteristics of a jackal. Its legs and snout are shorter than that of a wolf. It turns out to be an Asiatic jackal (canis aureus), which was added to the second edition of the Chinese Mammal Diversity list in 2017.
Asiatic jackals live in the Indian subcontinent and the northwest part of Southeast Asia. The TBIC expedition team used images to prove that Asiatic jackal can also be found in the Tibet.
The discovery of the Asiatic jackal is a new record for China, adding a new member to the Chinese canine family.
