Medog means "flower" in Tibetan language. If dated back to the ancient times, the eminent monk Padma Sambhava was the earliest "tourist" to Medog.
According to historical records, the Padma Sambhava was commissioned by the king of ancient kingdom to visit famous mountains and shrines in Tibet. When he walked into Medog, he found the place was just like a blooming lotus, therefore, he named the place "Padmagam" and left a gold key which could open the door of pure land in the Gontod Potrang Mountain. Since then, the eminent monks and believers of Tibetan Buddhism have gone pilgrims to Medog in an endless stream.
About 300 years ago, Deshing Township of Medog County was named by a wandering monk as "Donggar Cholung", which means the place where auspicious conch blows. Deshing can be said a secret garden in the mysterious Medog County.
Quanhong, a 31-year-old villager in the Deshing Township built a "happy farmhouse" in the hillside which is situated in the snakelike Great Bend of the Yarlung Zangbo River.
"There will be a lot of visitors in the future," said Quanhong. Half a year after he built the happy farmhouse, he received over one hundred visitors and earned more than 20,000 yuan (about 3280 U.S. dollars).The future development of Quanhong's farmhouse is well prepared and fully planned.
After the Medog Highway opening to traffic, it is predicted that in the future, large number of tourists will be attracted because of Medog's mysterious reputation. The distinctive culture industry and tourism industry will be the pillar industries in Medog after it opens to the outside world.
