32 Tibetan Buddhists awarded doctorate in Beijing

Thirty-two Tibetan Buddhists received the "Tho Ram Pa" degree, a senior academic title of Tibetan Buddhism, on Wednesday in Beijing's High-level Tibetan Buddhism College of China.

A total of 33 scholars from different sects of Tibetan Buddhism, such as Nyingma and Gelug, have completed three years of study and graduated from the college.

After qualification examinations, taking exams, and defending their dissertations, 32 among all received the degree, which is equivalent to a doctorate.

Jamyang Losang Jigme Tubdain Qoigyi Nyima, a living Buddha and the president of the college, presented the monks with their graduation certificates and degrees.

The scholars who received degrees paid religious homage to the 11th Panchen Lama Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu, also vice president of the Buddhist Association of China, after the degree awarding ceremony.

The ceremony was the 16th of its kind, and a total of 240 monks have received the "Tho Ram Pa" degree so far.
