2022-07-12

On June 23, at about 9 a.m., accompanied by the drizzle and rhythmic shouting of the villagers, locals ushered in one of the most important festivals of the year in Gamai Village, Anrao Town, Gyacha County, Lhoka City, Tibet Autonomous Region, the Ongkor Festival. More than 70 villager representatives in the village dressed in festive costumes, held colorful "Dada", sang blessings that have been passed down for thousands of years, and walked around all the farmland of the village. They talked about the joy for the coming harvest, their gratitude for various beneficiary policies and expectations for a happy life in future.

After walking around all fields and finishing other rituals, all villagers gathered together in the yard of the village committee, and carried out a variety of cultural and sports activities, such as singing and dancing, holding stones, tug-of-war, stepping on balloons. The festival scene is very lively, people singing and dancing in joy and cheers.

"I have lived in Gamai Village for decades, and I have witnessed the rapid development in the village. People are living a better life in a harmonious neighbor relationship. Everyone is working for the development of the village. This is all thanks to the good policies of the country." Said Jamyang Tsering, a 76-year-old in Gamai Village.
