"I come to witness people's efforts in guarding national unity, and to tell people that we Buddhists stand up for national unity," said Rinpoche Lorong, the abbot of Bore Monastery in Sershul County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Sichuan Province.
The Rinpoche said in many people's eyes monastery and temple are mysterious place with religious cultural relics secluded from the outside world, "I want to tell people that monasteries and temples are not monks' world only but rather a place of cultural inheritance where the cultural relics have not only religious value but also social importance and belongs to not only the temple or the Tibetan people, but also society and our country regardless of ethnic and religious difference".
In the "Holy Garze into Beijing, Sichuan's Garze Tibetan Areas Cultural Tourism Week" activities launched in Beijing's Cultural Palace of Nationalities on June 5, Lorong Rinpoche brings 100 items from the temple to exhibit together with other cultural relics from the Garze Prefecture, adding that the Bore Monastery has over 2,000 items of ancient cultural relics since the Bore Monastery has a long history dated back to days before Buddhism was introduced into Tibet and is also on the route where Princess Wencheng went to Tibet upon her marriage to Tubo King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century.
Rinpoche Lorong pointed out that these monastic cultural relics need people's and social attention so that the protection and preservation could be more effective, and on the other hand the exhibition can satisfy cultural vultures' curiosity.
He further explained that "taking an open-minded approach to introduce benevolence-oriented Buddhism spirit to the public via extraordinary relics is a good way to avoid misreading of Tibetan Buddhist tenets and can make the religion better serve the people, our nation and the country".
TheBore Monastery is a temple of Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism under the genealogy of the Tashilhunpo Monastery where the Panchen Lama is the abbot living Buddha.
Originated from ancient Bonpo religion before Buddhism was introduced to Tibet in the 7th century, the Bore Monastery has been relocated due to historical reasons many times. The present location of the temple can be dated back to 1818 when China was the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
